a first for me.

made a couple of spoons last night, and for the first time i turned a spoon on the lathe (the one on the left) basicly you just turn all the shape than cut a side away then carve the bowl as normal,i quite like this style but you cant lug a gurt lathe about in the woods can you?!

rowan spoons.

This week i managed to obtain some Rowan ,its a good wood for carving being as it is quite soft, makes a change from the hazel i have been using,i think there will be a few given that i have 14 foot of 10 inch girth to use!

For a while i have wanted to make a saw frame to take junior hacksaw blades as i just hate the look and feel of the metal frame i had, sotoday i made this one from stained oak and antler.

A new whitler.

I had an 01tool steel blade knocking around for ages made by Bernie Garland and last week i decided to handle it ,for the handle i used a silver bolster, bloodwood and a red deer antler pommel.

A pocket strop.

Now given the amount of whitling i do i need a razor sharp blade and as most folk know a strop is a must, now with a regular strop you get messy grey stuff comming off in your pocket or day bag/tool roll,so i came up with the idea of a folding one.I had some diamondwood hanging around so this would be my frame, after cutting i routed the inner and added two magnets to keep it closed when not in use and added a nice lil hinge.
